Biology Revision Course

Year 11 GCSE Biology Revision Course

With the upcoming GCSE examinations, this course offers a chance for students to refresh and tidy up knowledge in preparation for your finals.

The first course will cover material from the first year of the GCSE course and the second course covers material from the second year.

The courses are open to all students of Biology currently in Year 10/11 (both single and double / combined awards). The first course must precede the second course.

Course material will be provided in the form of a revision pack including a student handbook.

This course covers material from the following examination boards –

Edexcel International, IGCSE, AQA and OCR (both single and double/ combined award), for content covered during the first year (Yr 10) of the GCSE course.

Topics covered in the first year revision are as follows:

	Cells - Cells and cellular organisation
	Respiration
	Photosynthesis
	Transport in Plants and Animals (Osmosis, Diffusion and Active Transport)
	Plants - An illustration of Transport
	Proteins – Enzymes and examples
	Introduction to Hormones – Plant hormones & Animal hormones - the Menstrual cycle as an illustration of negative feedback
	DNA – Introduction to Protein Synthesis
	Homeostasis - the kidney and Blood Sugar

Topics covered in the second year revision are as follows:

	Digestion – The digestive system, enzymes, digestion absorption and assimilation.
	Transport and tissue fluid – cell survival
	Reproduction – Animal and Plant – the continuation of species
	The cell cycle – Mitosis and Meiosis – Gene inheritance
	Variation, Inheritance and Evolution – the gene driven process
	Genetics – Mendel and genetic crossing
	Ecology – the interaction of species and environment. A driving force of evolution
	Nutrient Cycling – The ingredients for life - recycled

A maximum of 6 students per course is allowed to ensure quality of revision and to encourage active discussion.

Places allocated on first-come, first served basis with priority given to current First Class Academy students.
